Hollister Incorporated, a US-based global manufacturer of medical devices and equipment, intends to open a new production site in Kaunas, Lithuania. The planned investment is approximately EUR 50 million with around 300 new jobs to be created over the next several years. The primary purpose of the investment is to meet demand in Europe.
“The decision to have a production site in Lithuania is a strategic initiative for our company. It will allow us to build new capacity and better serve our customers, primarily in Europe, which already accounts for the majority of our sales. We look forward to working with the Lithuanian government and implementing this project in Kaunus,” said V. George Maliekel, President and Chief Executive Officer, Hollister Incorporated.
Established in 1921, this independent, employee-owned business is a major global developer, manufacturer and marketer of advanced medical products for ostomy care, continence care, critical care and wound care. In Lithuania, Hollister Incorporated is planning to manufacture its ostomy care and continence care products.
Headquartered in the US, Hollister Incorporated has manufacturing and distribution centers on three continents and company offices in more than 25 countries. Hollister Incorporated also sells its products in more than 80 countries around the world.
Ostomy and Continence Care
An ostomy is a surgically created opening that connects the gastrointestinal or urinary system to the skin. Someone may need an ostomy due to a variety of health conditions, including cancer, intestinal distress, spinal injury or other conditions.
Someone also may need to use continence care products, such as intermittent catheters, due to cancer, spinal cord injury or other medical conditions that impact bladder function.
In addition to providing advanced medical solutions for ostomy care and continence care, Hollister Incorporated also offers comprehensive patient-support services to help people live their lives with an ostomy or neurogenic bladder. Additionally, the company provides high-quality education materials and programs for healthcare providers and for the people who depend on its products every day.
Choosing Kaunas for its ostomy care and continence care products
“Lithuania, and Kaunas specifically, offer compatibility with the Hollister culture, geographic proximity to our customers, right technical competencies and favourable investment climate, which were the key criteria in selecting the location. Moreover, the support we have received from local business leaders and governmental agencies in Lithuania in the selection process gives us confidence that we have made the right choice for our customers, our associates and our company,” said Mr. Maliekel. “At Hollister Incorporated, we are committed to ‘making a difference in the journey of life’ of the people we serve. That phrase reflects our company’s mission to deliver quality medical products and services, and to make life more rewarding and dignified for people who depend on those products and services.”
“Kaunas is an exceptional location for manufacturers of medical equipment. Kaunas University of Technology and the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences boast valuable competencies and cooperation in the area of research, resulting in innovative inventions that put Lithuania on the world map and substantially contribute to the education of qualified specialists. The intention of Hollister Incorporated to open a production site in Lithuania may therefore become a serious impetus for the country’s medical equipment production sector,” said Mantas Katinas, Managing Director of the foreign investment promotion agency Invest Lithuania.
“Hollister Incorporated is an independent, employee-owned business that manufactures value-added medical products. Its business model, values and commitment to the people who use the company’s products and services deserve admiration. It is great that the company intends to open a new production site in Kaunas. But the fact that the company will bring its own approach to the wellbeing of employees and serve as a serious impetus to life sciences in Lithuania sounds even better,” said Lithuanian Minister of Economy, Mindaugas Sinkevičius.
Hollister Incorporated also plans to cooperate with the establishment of higher education in Kaunas to continue to help train specialists in mechanical engineering, which are in substantial demand on the labour market.
