OAG expands Lithuanian presence with acquisition of Infare

September 05, 2023

OAG, the world’s leading data platform for the global travel industry, has recently acquired Infare, the leading provider of competitor air travel data. Through the acquisition, the British company is set to increase its footprint in Lithuania, where both OAG and Infare have been operating for many years.

The deal marks a significant step in OAG’s journey to expand and strengthen its technology and data expertise capabilities in Lithuania. Established a decade ago, Infare’s office in Vilnius now has a 70-strong team, while OAG’s team in Kaunas has grown to 60 employees over the five years since the company entered Lithuania.

“We are incredibly proud of the role our Vilnius office has played in supporting the growth of Infare,” says Nils Gelbjerg-Hansen, CEO of Infare. “The acquisition by OAG opens up new possibilities for us to scale up and provide unparalleled air travel intelligence to our customers worldwide.”

Phil Callow, CEO of OAG, adds, “Kaunas has been instrumental in driving our technology and data capabilities forward, and we are thrilled to extend our presence in Lithuania through this acquisition. We see tremendous potential in joining forces with Infare to strengthen our ability to deliver consistent and accurate information across the wider supply and demand value chain.

UK-headquartered OAG credits the exceptional local talent and support the company has found in Lithuania as key contributor to its successful growth. Since its establishment, the OAG team in Kaunas has been instrumental in developing the company’s products, notably OAG Metis, a technology platform providing a blended and configurable view of high-value flight information.

The original decision to expand our business into Lithuania was largely influenced by the high level of technical and English language skills offered by the Lithuanian talent pool. The region is filled with highly skilled Software Engineers and other IT specialists, a key consideration for OAG.

OAG saw Infare’s airfare intelligence as a highly complimentary addition to the company’s existing flight data solutions.

“Infare’s data expertise and technical capabilities are well established in Vilnius. Given OAG’s successful operations in Kaunas, the ease of collaboration, remarkable cultural fit and ability to share knowledge was an exciting opportunity,” explains Mr. Callow.

With two key bases in Lithuania combined, the country will now host over a third of OAG’s global team. Both offices will continue to contribute to the company’s global operations and serve as a dual hub for technology and data expertise.

The new acquisition is also expected to underpin OAG’s role as a key employer in the region. As both brands continue to grow, it will create new jobs and expand career development prospects across both locations. Currently, OAG plans to expand its team in Lithuania with Software and Quality Assurance Engineers, DevOps, Product Owners, and Data Specialists.

“The collaboration between Vilnius and Kaunas offices is an exciting prospect, and we are eager to see the potential it brings. It’s a great opportunity for us to work with talented professionals from both offices and contribute to creating a stronger and more comprehensive offering for the global travel industry,” said Simona Mikalone, Head of OAG’s Kaunas office.

“I am proud of what we have achieved at Infare since the opening of our Vilnius office in 2011. I am glad to see our horizons expand on a broad spectrum of tech roles and beyond,” said

Vytautas Baronas, Infare‘s Chief Data Officer and GM of Infare Lithuania, noticed the impressive growth of the company. “I am proud of what we have achieved at Infare since the opening of our Vilnius office in 2011. I am glad to see our horizons expand on a broad spectrum of tech roles and beyond.”

For Elijus Čivilis, General Manager of Invest Lithuania, OAG’s new acquisition spells success for both companies.
