Intralogistics solutions pioneer TGW Logistics Group expands engineering and IT services centre in Kaunas

TGW Logistics Group, a global logistics automation systems provider, has announced expanding its Centre of Excellence for engineering and IT services in Kaunas, Lithuania. Established in 2017, the centre already contributes to the company’s projects across Europe, North America and Asia. The company plans to double its more than 50-strong team and add such high value-added services as R&D Smart Mechatronics.

TGW Logistics Group is an Austria-based company providing highly automated, efficient and future-proof warehouse picking fulfilment centres. In the core industries of Fashion & Apparel, Grocery and Industrial & Consumer Goods, TGW Logistics Group plans and implements fulfilment centres around the world and takes care of service and maintenance during ongoing operations. TGW Logistics Group develops all essential components of its solutions in-house, including the Software, Control System, Robotics and Mechatronics modules. The company’s clients include PUMA, Mango, DHL, Kärcher, Nestle, Adidas and hundreds of other world-renowned brands.

In 2017, TGW Logistics Group opened its Centre of Excellence for engineering services in Kaunas, with functions performed mainly from this centre: detailed mechanical design, PLC Software development and commissioning, system simulation and other engineering functions. Today, the variety of services provided by Kaunas centre is especially broad: from the detailed system design to its launch and handover to the clients. That includes designing the mechanics, component selection, various levels of software development and testing, both in virtual environment and in the real-life objects, and other various system development tasks.

According to Vytautas Janilionis, Lithuanian Branch Manager at TGW Logistics Group, the team of engineers in Lithuania became an integral part of the company in the past four years and have already proven their professionalism delivering exceptional results.

We were pleasantly surprised by how easily and quickly our new hires integrated into our multicultural company known for its high internal standards, strong culture and values. Seeing how well our Lithuanian teams tackle the most challenging projects, we have decided to expand the centre and add new functions to it.

The new mechatronics R&D team will focus on the autonomous warehouse systems innovations. It will include Software Developers, PLC Developers, IT and Embedded System Developers. In the upcoming months, the company plans active expansion of existing teams and will be hiring engineers and IT specialists with various level of experience.

TGW Logistics Group Lithuania stresses its strong ties with local educational institutions as a critical component for their successful expansion thus far. The company frequently takes part in university events, whereas its specialists are often invited to share their knowledge and insights as guest lecturers in the field of Logistics Process Automation. Moreover, TGW Logistics Group has installed a demo autonomous warehouse system for Automation and Robotics students in the Automation Components Laboratory at the Kaunas University of Technology – the region’s largest STEM-focused university.
