Google, the global web search and digital marketing giant, have opened a sales and marketing office in Vilnius in order to support local companies and partners in the Baltic region more easily. The company already had a team of Googlers focused on the Baltics in their international structure and are now establishing a formal presence in Lithuania, their first office in the Baltics. Starting with a small team, the growth of the office will depend on the dynamics of the local internet ecosystem.

As announced earlier this month, for the sixth year in a row Lithuania has retained its leading position in Europe in terms of fiber-optic (FTTH) Internet network penetration. Recent names include Nasdaq, Uber and Game Insight, along with an number of other game development companies. The country has recently been called “Europe’s secret tech powerhouse” by The Next Web.
As Vytautas Kubilius, Country Business Development Manager at Google for the Baltic States, explained “we have opened a small office to be closer to local communities and companies to help them benefit from the growth of the internet. It is also important to mention that people who work for the Baltics team are not limited to those who are or will actually be based in Lithuania – we have many employees worldwide who work with Baltic customers and partners, who localize products and support development of the ecosystem here.”
Google also expressed its intention to focus on education and on promoting the benefits of the digital economy. “We see a lot of growth potential in this region. We are helping people and businesses benefit from the internet. The social and economic impact of the internet provides a great opportunity for people in the Baltics. We create innovative marketing solutions and would like to contribute to educating people and growing online skills inthe Baltics.”
