Global Electro-Optics Supplier Tonbo Imaging Inks Multi-Million Contract from Lithuania Operations

October 08, 2019

Rapidly expanding security and military intelligence products specialist, UAB Tonbo Imaging has recently signed a fleet reactivation and modernization contract with a Spanish defense systems integrator.

As part of the contract, Tonbo will equip Cavalry Reconnaissance Vehicles (CRV) in the middle east with thermal cameras for enhanced situational awareness.

Notably, Tonbo Imaging with operations in India, US and Singapore, set up an R&D center in Lithuania last summer for the development of autonomous transportation prototype with sensors, environment recognition and communication system. In the past year, the company focused on aggressive hiring and setting up supply chain logistics in a line up to commence active production.

With this contract, Tonbo Imaging will have the CRV’s operational relevance extended through addition of thermal cameras to the gunner’s periscope for enhanced operation in all weather and lighting conditions. The thermal camera will include an integrated display with control buttons and display indicators, which will provide instant usable information for the commander and gunner to make real- time decisions. The project will be delivered over a nine-month period.

CEO Arvind Lakshmikumar believes, “the contract is likely to bolster Tonbo’s presence as a prominent defense manufacturer among the Baltic nations and will attract local talent with core expertise in computer vision and machine learning.”

Managing Director, Invest Lithuania – Mantas Katinas adds “Lithuania’s automotive and transportation landscape has been steadily expanding in multiple directions. We are glad that Tonbo Imaging is successfully settling in Lithuania and creating products here that will be used globally.”

Tonbo’s products are used by militaries across the world, on programs spanning all aspects of land, air and sea surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting. The company counts WRV Capital, Artiman ventures, Qualcomm and Edelweiss among its investors and has received recognition and awards from CNBC, Frost & Sullivan, Global Entrepreneur, Business Standard and IEEE Consumer Electronics Society.
