What led Cencora to Lithuania

What made Lithuania the right fit for Cencora

In 2017, the company set up a transport office in Lithuania for its World Courier speciality courier service. A Shared Service Centre for Finance and a Center of Excellence quickly followed. And for such expansion several key factors played a role.

Lithuania’s robust public and digital infrastructure provides a solid foundation for seamless global operations and offers Cencora convenient access to its core European markets. Combined with proactive government support for foreign investors, these fundamentals have made Lithuania a strong hub for business services.

For Cencora, Lithuania’s thriving business services sector has brought one significant advantage – access to highly skilled professionals with global experience. Backed by strong education, multilingual abilities, and an innovation-driven mindset, Lithuanian talent offers the agility and forward-thinking approach needed to support complex, international operations.

These strengths of Lithuania’s business services ecosystem have enabled Cencora’s operations to grow substantially ever since. It has significantly expanded the range of functions performed in Lithuania, including the addition of Cyber Security, HR Solutions Delivery, and strategic Project Management. Its team is now over 570 strong, with plans in place to grow to 700 full time employees and add additional functions in the near future.

Cencora’s impact in Lithuania

Cencora’s presence in Lithuania started with a transport office, part of the company’s specialty courier service, World Courier. A plan for developing a Shared Services Center (SSC) followed soon afterwards, and by 2019 Cencora had a team of 60 people in place delivering Finance & Accounting services. The company quickly recognized the high quality of the local talent pool, and its diverse range of abilities, which provided the flexibility and scalability global enterprises require.

As a result, the center’s scope has been expanding ever since. Initially, core functions such as IT and Customer Operations were added. Following the success of these teams, Cencora started to build business services teams in Vilnius to provide a wide array of specialized services.

Another way in which the Vilnius office’s remit has expanded is in terms of the markets it serves. The centre’s operations were initially focused on a relatively small number of countries and regions in Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe (NCEE).

Today, however, Cencora’s Lithuanian business services team has a comprehensive global reach. This includes providing support for the company’s key markets in the Americas. As a result, the center has become a strategically important hub in Cencora’s global operations.

What the future holds

The success of Cencora’s office in Lithuania has brought mutual benefits. The country’s highly skilled and multilingual talent pool is supporting the continuous development of Cencora’s operations. Furthermore, Lithuania’s thriving IT and Fintech sectors have fostered an innovative ecosystem which Cencora is tapping into, driving advancements and introducing value-added services.
