MAREX expands production in Lithuania, introducing cutting-edge technologies and new models

November 28, 2024

MAREX, a Norwegian manufacturer known for its innovative recreational boats, announces its strategic expansion in Lithuania, investing 20 million euros and creating 30 new jobs at its facility in Kaunas. With over 50 years of experience, MAREX is enhancing its production capabilities to meet the growing demand for larger, high-performance boats from its global customer base.

MAREX employs around 350 workers across Lithuania and Norway and produces approximately 150 boats annually. The new 10,000 m² facility will add to the existing 28,000 m² production space. It will be equipped with advanced manufacturing technologies, including robotics and process automation, to ensure precision and efficiency in production. The facility will also be powered by renewable energy sources, including solar and geothermal systems, with over 50% of its energy projected to come from renewables.

New models and technological innovations

MAREX’s latest model, the MAREX 440 Gourmet Cruiser, which won the European Powerboat of the Year award in 2024, highlights the company’s commitment to innovation. This model, perfectly designed and thoughtfully crafted, showcases the Norwegian shipyard’s extensive experience in shipbuilding and is among the boats now being produced at the company’s new Lithuanian facility.

In the coming years, MAREX plans to introduce several new boat models, with lengths reaching up to 16.4 meters in length. These models will focus on incorporating the latest in marine design, including improved ergonomics and user-friendly configurations, as part of MAREX’s efforts to serve its global customer base.

We are excited about the future of MAREX in Lithuania, after more than two decades here, this expansion marks a key milestone in our journey. It allows us to increase production capacity while maintaining our leadership in the global boating industry by continuously investing in innovation and sustainability.
Espen Aalrud, board member and shareholder of MAREX
We considered various locations for this expansion, including other countries, but ultimately chose Lithuania because of its robust infrastructure and highly skilled workforce. The flexibility and adaptability of the Lithuanian labor market are among the critical factors in supporting our growth and meeting evolving business demands.
Saulius Pajarskas, CEO of MAREX Boats Lithuania

Job creation and economic growth

The expansion is expected to create 30 new jobs in Lithuania, ranging from technicians and engineers to assembly line specialists. These positions are essential as MAREX focuses on manufacturing larger vessels that require advanced materials and construction techniques.

MAREX Boats Lithuania has signed a cooperation agreement with Kaunas Education Center of Technologies (Kautech) to foster quality of education, training and internships.

This investment showcases how Lithuania is perfectly positioned to support niche manufacturers like MAREX. With our skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and supportive business environment, Lithuania continues to attract companies committed to innovation and growth.
