Lithuania is now considered the world’s 14th most business-friendly country, according to the World Bank’s latest Doing Business index. Lithuania’s ascent in the rankings happened at the backdrop of an overall negative tendency in the CEE region – all other countries, except Latvia, have fallen in the ranking. According to this year’s index, Lithuania has outperformed not just its direct competitors in FDI attraction but also such well-established locations as Ireland (23rd place) and Germany (24th place).

For the annual index, the World Bank assesses the progress of countries across ten criteria. According to this year’s index, Lithuania is one of the TOP 10 countries when it comes to Registering Property, Enforcing Contracts and Dealing with Construction Permits. The largest strides taken by Lithuania were in these categories: Getting Electricity (33rd to 26th place), Dealing with Construction Permits (12th to 7th place), and Protecting Minority Investors (43rd to 38th place).

The Doing Business project provides objective measures of business regulations and their enforcement across 190 economies and selected cities at the subnational and regional level. Please follow this link to download the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 index.
